During the first quarter of the year, CBP agriculture specialists in south Florida have intercepted a wide variety of invasive and/or destructive pests including; moths, snails, longhorn beetles, leafhoppers, miner flies and mites that could thrive in the year-round warm climate of south Florida.

USDA Announces Nutrition Education Grants

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced that tribal nutrition education projects in 10 states have been selected to receive grants this year through USDA's Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR).

USDA Program Provides Consumers More Choices at the Pump With Flex-Fuel Options

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack today announced that Americans will soon have more choices at the gas pump through a USDA program that will provide funding for installation of flexible fuel pumps. USDA is issuing a rule to clarify that the definition of renewable energy systems in the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) includes flexible fuel pumps, sometimes referred to as "blender pumps."

Agriculture Secretary Vilsack Announces Rural Electric Funding to Benefit Rural Residents

Washington, DC - Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced that 10 rural electric cooperatives and utilities have been awarded funding to build or expand transmission and distribution lines and provide smart grid technology to benefit nearly 20,000 rural consumers.

Emergency Loss Assistance to Producers of Honeybees, Livestock, Farm-Raised Fish

Washington, DC - Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced that more than $8 million in disaster assistance will be issued starting immediately to livestock, honeybee and farm-raised fish producers that suffered losses in 2010 because of disease, adverse weather or other conditions. The aid will come from the Emergency Assistance for Livestock, Honeybees and Farm-Raised Fish Program (ELAP).
