Census of Agriculture Shows Growing Diversity in U.S. Farming

Washington, DC - The number of farms in the United States has grown 4 percent and the operators of those farms have become more diverse in the past five years, according to results of the 2007 Census of Agriculture released today by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS).

USDA Announces Planting Transferability Pilot Project in 7 States

Washington, DC - Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced that a new pilot project will permit producers in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin to plant such vegetables as cucumbers, green peas, lima beans, pumpkins, snap beans, sweet corn, or tomatoes for processing on base acres under the Direct and Counter-Cyclical Program (DCP).

European Farmers Want U.S. Technology and Corn Yields

Washington, DC - National Corn Growers Association Chief Executive Officer Rick Tolman last week took part in Vegetalia, a major farm show in northern Italy. At the show, he gave participants three presentations on U.S. agriculture - covering production, technology and biofuels - and learned about some of the key differences between farming in Europe and the United States.

Washington, DC - United States corn farmers succeeded in a challenging year, producing the second-highest harvest (12.1 billion bushels) despite harsh weather and other obstacles, the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) reports in its newest World of Corn statistical look at the corn industry both domestic and worldwide.
